Angelo Bortolin, seen here in a previous game, socked a three-run double to highlight an eight-run eighth-inning rally to give the College of San Mateo Bulldogs a 12-11 win Saturday over Diablo Valley College.

It ain’t over till it’s over.

The College of San Mateo Bulldogs (4-3 overall) proved the old adage absolutely right Saturday, rallying for eight runs in the eighth inning to score a dramatic 12-11 come-from-behind win over Diablo Valley College (3-4) at Bulldog Stadium.

Entering the bottom of the eighth trailing 9-4, the Bulldogs sent 13 batters to the plate in the epic comeback.

Sophomore third baseman Angelo Bortolin (Serra) batted twice in the inning. The left-handed slugger led off the frame with a walk. The bases were loaded the next time he came up and Bortolin cashed in, socking a bases-clearing double to give CSM a 10-9 lead.

Keolu Ramos started the scoring carousel, following Bortolin’s leadoff walk with a two-run home run. Everett Lau added an RBI single, Kevin Jordan drove home a run with a fielder’s choice groundout and — after Bortolin’s three-run double — Ramos came through again, this time with an RBI triple.

The insurance runs looked large as Diablo Valley rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth before Bulldogs closer Justin Berry notched a strikeout and a pop-out to end it.

Right-hander Jamie Kruger (Woodside) earned the win in relief, the first of his collegiate career.

Chris Papapietro (Serra) led all CSM batters going 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. The sophomore outfielder is batting .357 (10 for 28) with four multi-hit games.

The balanced Bulldogs are hitting .308 as a team, with three players — Lau, Jordan and Jack McCarthy — leading the team with 11 hits apiece.
