When CSM held off Ohlone College for a 6-4 win Saturday in Fremont, it not only improved Borg’s career record to 400-122, it thrust the Bulldogs into sole possession of first place in the Coast Conference North standings, one game ahead of second-place Ohlone.

Currently the No. 1 ranked community college softball team in Northern California, the Bulldogs are well on their way to a sixth straight 40-win season. The last time Borg and company did not reach the 40-win plateau was in 2012, when CSM won 39 games. The program has reached the state championship tournament in each of the past five years.

Saturday’s game was initially scheduled for last Thursday, but was postponed due to rain. The Bulldogs showed no signs of rust, rallying for two run in the first en route to scoring in each of the first four innings.

Sophomore outfielder Gabby Zucchiatti (Mills) led the hit parade, going 3 for 4 with an RBI. Sophomore Allie Stines (Capuchino) and freshman Aubrie Businger (Mills) added two hits apiece, while sophomore catcher Mackenzie Driscoll (Hillsdale) was 1 for 4 with two RBIs.

Driscoll now has 35 RBIs on the season, ranking sixth in the state.

Freshman right-hander Emily McAdams (Sequoia) worked five innings to earn the win. Since starting earning a loss in her first collegiate decision Feb. 8, McAdams has earned six wins — including victories in back-to-back games for the first time in her career — improving her record to 6-1.

Sophomore right-hander Lauren Quirke (Hillsdale) closed it out with two scoreless innings of relief to earn the save.

Borg is a Millbrae product who starred as a utility player at Capuchino. After graduating in 1998, she played two seasons at CSM for Tom Martinez. After transferring to the University of Tennessee, she returned to CSM to begin her coaching career as an assistant under Martinez in 2004.
