A sparkling new mosaic mural, “Reflect, Rejoice, Renew,” designed and created by students in CSM’s Mosaic Mural class now greets visitors at the new Samaritan House building, located at 4031 Pacific Boulevard in San Mateo.
The colorful mosaic features a sunburst design with textured patterns that represent the diversity of cultures and people served by Samaritan House. Upon its completion, the students donated the mosaic to be a permanent part of the Samaritan House site.
CSM Associate Professor of Art Jude Pittman, who teaches the class, commented that “Public art creates a dialogue in the community. It’s something to enrich our lives on a daily basis. The college is working to bring more stimulating as well as decorative public art to the campus and the larger community.”
The students that designed, created, donated materials and helped to install the mural were Adam Klafter, Yvonne Long, Gail Mintz, Mary Ellen Presta, Fail Vannucchi Strack and Diana White.
Materials for the Mural were donated by Dal Tile, College of San Mateo, B Sharp Accessories, and Jude Pittman, as well as the mural students mentioned above.
