College of San Mateo swept its season series with county rival Skyline, edging the host Trojans, 66-64, in a Coast Conference North Division women’s basketball game Friday night.

Shakara Haynes made the second of two free throw attempts with 1:14 left to put CSM (13-9, 4-3 Coast North) ahead for good, 65-64, and Raphy Buenafe did the same with seven seconds remaining to give the Bulldogs their 2-point cushion.  Noelani Gi’s 3-point attempt from the top of the key at the buzzer for Skyline was short, but she still was the game’s top scorer with 21 points – including three treys.   Her last basket tied it at 64 with 1:54 left.

San Mateo, ranked 15th in Northern California, had a 17-4 run over the final five minutes of the first half to take a ten-point (39-29) lead at the break.  But CSM went nearly 11 minutes without a basket in the second half to let the Trojans (6-16, 3-6) back in it.  There were 13 lead changes and nine ties in the contest.

Janisa Jones led CSM — off the bench — with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 steals and also had 4 assists.  Although seeing limited action, Erica Hayes had  13 points, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.  Alisi Niupalau had ten points before fouling out.  Haynes had 9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 blocks, and 2 assists.

San Mateo was without freshman front liner Patricia Malaspina, who is out for the season with a broken foot.

Next week CSM hosts Hartnell on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and Northern California’s top team, San Francisco, on Friday at 7 p.m.
