Sydnie McGuire has a unique goal in life; it’s really what she doesn’t want out of life: To become a hobo. She laughed, “If I try my hardest, I’ll get it done,” she said relating to any challenges that come her way.

The Child Development Center, Library and Athletic Department have teamed up to offer a “CSM Athletes as Readers and Leaders” pilot project. CSM athletes will read to children in the Child Development Center as a way to encourage reading and discussion about the importance of sports, exercise and academics.

More than 400 students and members of the college community turned out on May 5 to celebrate outstanding student achievement at CSM’s annual Scholarship Awards Reception. Following remarks by Mike Claire and Diana Bennett, Academic Senate president, the awards were presented to each of the scholarship recipients.

College of San Mateo ran the board in the weekend’s Super Regional tournament, winning three straight to qualify for the California final four — aka, the California Community College Athletic Association State Tournament, as per tradition hosted by Fresno City College — culminating yesterday in a 12-5 win over Sacramento City.

CSM’s Athletic Department recently welcomed Gary Beban, the 1967 Heisman Trophy winner and a former professional football player, to the college to speak with the Bulldog baseball team.

High School filmmakers will be honored at KCSM’s 4th Annual Spotlight! High School Filmmaking Competition Awards Night to be held on May 2 in CSM’s Theatre.
