January 23 has been named Ed Roberts Day in California, in honor of the Cal alum who pioneered the disability-rights movement on campus and nationwide.

Courtesy of ESPN.com, Tom Martinez, emeritus professor of physical education and athletics, has a new nickname: Quarterback Whisperer. The article, “Tom Brady Still Listens to QB Whisperer,” highlights the professional relationship between Brady and Martinez.

The May 7 issue of the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal featured an article about CSM’s new Health and Wellness Building in its Construction, Engineering & Architecture section, “Bond money backs expansion at College of San Mateo.”

Starting in fall 2010, College of San Mateo will offer a dynamic, integrative curriculum in digital media that provides hands-on training in four areas of concentration: broadcast & electronic media, graphic design, journalism and web design.

Shannon McCaffrey, CSM floristry student, was the recipient of a second place award at the prestigious American Institute of Floral Designers’ (AIFD) 2010 Student Floral Design Competition.

Matt and Nick Huang were putting the finishing touches on one of their first college projects ever — a claymation movie. The brothers are two of hundreds of kids locally who enrolled in College for Kids! this summer, a program through the community education department of the San Mateo Community College District. Just about 450 students entering fifth through ninth grade took on classes for three-week periods at the three college campuses.
