CSM Bridge Program certificate recipients

Twelve incoming freshmen proudly displayed the certificates they earned as participants in CSM’s inaugural Summer Bridge Program. Summer Bridge is designed to help students make a successful transition from high school to college life through a holistic approach that combines academic, social and personal aspects.

Students in the four week program were introduced to CSM’s programs and support services, personal development strategies and career planning information. In addition, they received practical academic tips for success in math, writing, speech, library and study skills through daily workshops presented by CSM faculty.

The program encouraged relationship building between supportive faculty and staff with the students; this support network will continue to assist the students while they attend CSM. Through their enrollment in the College and Career Success class, each student also earned three units of college credit. In the words of one Summer Bridge student, “I feel proud of the decision I made to attend Summer Bridge, it really impacted my life personally and academically. Academically, it’s taught me different tools that I will need at CSM, different resources and a boost of confidence that I can do well here.”  The program was supported and coordinated by CSM’s Basic Skills Initiative.
