While City College of San Francisco’s offense roared up and down the field like a finely tuned stock car, the College of San Mateo football team’s repeatedly sputtered and stalled.

The CSM women’s water polo team closes the regular season 3:30 p.m. Friday with a home match against Ohlone, a team the Bulldogs have already beaten once this season.

For the second time in two years, the College of San Mateo football team suffered its first loss of the season to Foothill, which beat the Bulldogs 31-28 Saturday.

No matter how many fumbles or penalties the College of San Mateo committed in its first six games, it always found a way to overcome its mistakes and win. On Saturday, the Bulldogs had no such luck.

College of San Mateo scored on its first three possessions in Saturday’s night’s NorCal Conference football opener at Santa Rosa JC — but still had to hold on for a 26-19 victory.
