California’s top educator, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, is a CSM alum and graduate of Westmoor High School. He attended the college in 1968-69 and transferred to UC Berkeley where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees and a teaching credential.

Jeremy Galten didn’t have much choice if he wanted to play college football after graduating from Hillsdale High. It was an NCAA Division III school or College of San Mateo. After two years at CSM, it became obvious to everybody the all-state offensive lineman scored high on the decision-making process.

College of San Mateo’s new Health & Wellness Building, which opened in 2010, has been honored with the 2011 Sustainable San Mateo County Green Building Award for Non Residential.

Professor of Biology Kathy Diamond and Professor of Astronomy, Mathematics and Physics Mohsen Janatpour are beginning their third year of participation in the CalTeach/Aurora Program sponsored by UC Berkeley.

College of San Mateo forward Trish Malaspina dominated on both sides of the ball in sparking her team to a 20-point lead early in the second quarter.
