CSM pitcher Andrew Herrera remains unbeaten on the year, winning his fifth game of the season. The right-hander scattered six hits, struck out three and allowed no earned runs over seven innings of baseball.

Despite two shoulder surgeries, Gavin Long is still playing baseball. Long, a 2009 graduate of Half Moon Bay High School, didn’t play too much for the College of San Mateo in his freshman year, 2010. He injured the shoulder in 2011 and re-injured it a year later. In 2013, Long is injury free and back playing for the Bulldogs.

Brandon DeFazio hit a triple, two doubles and drove in three runs to help College of San Mateo beat visiting City College of San Francisco, 7-1, in a Coast Golden Gate Conference baseball game on Saturday.

Evan McDaniel regained the national lead and broke a 24-year-old CSM shot put record Saturday at the Maurice Compton Invitational hosted by the Bulldogs.

Students from the San Mateo County Community College District are expected to be the first in California to have the opportunity to apply for a program to travel to China, free of charge.

The Lady Bulldogs (12-3, 33-4) clinched at least a tie for the division title with three games remaining. CSM travels to second-place De Anza (7-6) with a chance to clinch the outright title.

For those wondering how long it takes a softball team the caliber of the College of San Mateo to rid itself of the bitter taste of a disappointing defeat, the answer is all of 50 minutes.

On Tuesday, the Bulldogs traveled to San Jose City College and suffered their third Coast Conference loss, 2-1. San Jose scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning off of the state’s winningest pitcher, Michelle Pilster, to pick up its 10th conference victory.
