CSM’s McDaniel wins shot put at state meet

College of San Mateo’s Evan McDaniel claimed the first men’s title on Saturday at the CCCAA Track and Field Championships hosted by CSM, effectively winning the shot with his first put of 55 feet 10½ inches. He extended the margin to 56-1 in the second round and then hit the official winning distance of 56-3¾ in the fifth round. McDaniel is already the national community college leader this year at 58-4. He later placed third in the discus throw at 158-11, won by Markus Sanders of Modesto (184-1).

Khallifah Rosser of Chaffey won the 400-meter hurdles in 52.08, getting past NorCal champ Roman Skovronski (52.17) of CSM over the final two hurdles. The remainder of the field finshed more than a second-and-a-half back.
