More than 15 hours of downward dogs, meditation, tree poses and a mishmash of other yoga-related activities will commence tomorrow at the College of San Mateo from from 6:15 am – 9:30 pm.

The Open Heart Yoga conference is the first big event with multiple teachers by the club, called Open Heart Yoga, running it.

CSM yoga, Pilates and dance teacher Denaya Dailey is organizing the conference. Open Heart Yoga is a club at CSM of current and former students from the 200-hour registered yoga teacher-training program. Dailey, who has been at CSM since 2009, teaches the certificate class and advises the club.

“As far as I know, this is the only day-long yoga conference that happens in San Mateo,” Dailey said. “I would like this conference to be annual and our goal is to do two workshops per semester [as they’ve already been doing].”

There will be multiple Bay Area yoga teachers, along with a variety of styles and ideas. There will be classes run by Pete Guinosso, Dailey, Amber Steele, Pattie Stafford, Rucha Kelkar, Toni Cupal, Jean Garcia, David Cho, Rudy Ramirez and others.

Classes include: Let’s Get Together: Rise and Shine: Morning Vinyasa with Denaya from 8 a.m.-9:30 a.m., Partner Yoga with Jean Garcia and Suzanne Snyder from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and wraps up with Music and dancing with Zanzibar! from 8:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

“Yoga is amazing,” Dailey said. “Yoga means union and when we’re in union with ourselves and with the world around us it feels good. We feel whole and connected to others. As we practice yoga, we’re trying to bring ourselves into that space more often of connectedness and wholeness through the physical practices, pranayama breathing and meditation; basically trying to bring you into union.”

Organizers are expecting about 100 people and welcome more. There are various ticket packages.

Although online purchases closed last night, you can still buy tickets at the door of the event for $10 more than the original online prices. CSM students and staff pay anywhere from $25-$60 depending on what you sign up for, while any student with an I.D. pays $30-$75 and general admission is $40-$105.
