The story of Daniel Nava continues to grow into one for the ages. Nava persevered through many obstacles and his hard work culminated in the greatest reward of all last night, hoisting the World Series Trophy.

You can celebrate a huge victory on Saturday. Maybe even a little on Sunday. But come Monday, if you’re still dwelling on your latest achievement, frankly you’re already behind for the next game.

The 6-foot-7, 305-pound Jackson had actually committed to UCLA, but Alabama came calling — the same Alabama who has captured three of the past four Bowl Championship Series titles.

Leading up to the 2013 version of the College of San Mateo versus City College of San Francisco rivalry, all the talk coming out of the CSM locker room was that Saturday’s matchup with the Rams did not mean any more than any other game on the schedule.

The meteor that exploded in a brilliant burst of flame above the Bay Area on Wednesday was a lonely remnant from the birth of the solar system.

Sure, the Bulldogs fully intend on playing a game that has bigger implications by season’s end, but year after year, in order to get there, the boys from the City College of San Francisco and their nine national titles stand in the way.

The College of San Mateo football team has been looking forward to the start of the 2013 NorCal Conference schedule for some time now. No more need to speculate, look at rankings, or listen to early-season predictions; it was time for some real football.

Ranking? Doesn’t matter. Undefeated? Doesn’t matter. Coming off a bye week? Doesn’t matter. Playing a rival coming off a bye? Doesn’t matter. So what does matter? Only how the team responds to practice and the upcoming game.

CSM closed out non-conference football play with a 42-14 win domination of Delta College in Stockton on Saturday. The Bulldogs, ranked sixth in California, held a 42-0 lead early in the fourth quarter.

After a sour time in the pool and a 1-4 record the week before, CSM bounced back nicely in taking two matches during the Bulldog hosted mini-tournament.
