Top-seeded College of San Mateo welcomes the Yuba College softball team to the postseason for a best-of-three game series starting Saturday.

The 49ers enter the CCCAA Softball Northern Regional playoffs at the No. 16 seed after finishing the regular season second in the Bay Valley Conference with a 17-16 overall record.

The Bulldogs (37-2) host the series and the first game starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The second game of the series begins at noon Sunday and the third, if needed, will take place immediately afterward.

“We have everything to win, nothing to lose,” 49ers coach Stephanie Reynolds said.

The Bulldogs enter the game batting .418 as a team with 49 home runs while scoring nearly 10 runs a game, and their pitching staff boasts 20-game winner Ashlynne Neil who has a 2.17 ERA in 122 1/3 innings.

The Coast Conference-North champions shut out six of their final seven opponents of the season — the only non-shutout being an 11-1 victory against Sacramento.

Yuba won its final three games of the season, scoring 49 runs in that span, and edged Napa Valley for the BVC’s final playoff birth.

If the 49ers can pull off the upset, they would play the winner of No. 8 Shasta College and No. 9 Fresno City College.
