College of San Mateo right-hander Keone Cabinian retired the first 12 batters he faced and would go on to fire his first complete game of the season as CSM downed West Valley 4-2 Saturday at Bulldog Field.

Until Saturday, Makana Lyman hadn’t inhabited the No. 2 spot in College of San Mateo’s starting lineup since opening day. The sophomore responded to his return to the role by having a career day, going 3 for 5 with an RBI and three runs scored to pace the Bulldogs (7-3 in Coast Golden Gate, 15-8) to a 9-3 win at Chabot (3-7, 7-16).

Behind the untouchable pitching dominance of Lauren Berriatua, CSM (26-0) is showing no signs of slowing down. The sophomore right-hander has split time with sophomore right-hander Lacie Crawford this season. As a result, Berriatua ranks 15th in the state with 95 2/3 innings pitched. Yet she leads the state in wins (18), ERA (0.22) and ranks fourth in strikeouts (115).

College of San Mateo led at three different junctures Saturday, but Mission rallied in its final at-bat for a 7-5 win in a battle for first place in the Coast Golden Gate Conference Saturday at Bulldog Field.

The College of San Mateo softball team keeps rolling, winning its 19th straight Saturday to start the year. The Lady Bulldogs swept a three-game home series over the weekend, downing College of the Sequoias 8-0 Friday before sweeping a Saturday doubleheader from Siskiyous by scores of 13-4 and 10-0.
