While the College of San Mateo Bulldogs were battered and bruised, they were not beaten against reigning state champion City College of San Francisco in arguably the most important Bay 6 Conference matchup of the season to date.

With College of San Mateo’s 55-13 win Saturday at Contra Costa College, the Bulldogs have coasted through two victories to open their conference schedule.

The Spring 2017 Schedule of Classes is now available on our website and in print. We also encourage readers to take a look at our three feature stories, as they highlight our flexible Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and resources.

Currently tied for second place in the Coast Conference North, the Lady Bulldogs host first-place Cabrillo Wednesday. Ranked No. 5 among California Community College teams, Cabrillo is the reigning state champion and is off to a 4-0 start in conference play this year.

No. 24-ranked CSM (1-0 Bay 6, 3-3 overall) caught fire in the second quarter Saturday and kept adding to coast to a 52-14 win over De Anza College (0-1, 1-5) at College Heights Stadium.

When asked about College of San Mateo’s 318-yard rushing performance in Saturday’s 52-14 win over De Anza, Bulldogs head coach Larry Owens immediately praised how his offensive line recovered after a disorganized start.

As College of San Mateo’s third cross country head coach in as many years, Matt Layten is looking to the school’s football team for inspiration.

This wasn’t the case heading into halftime, with the Beavers clinging to a 15-7 lead and the Bulldogs set to receive the second-half kickoff. But CSM’s offense was stifled for a three-and-out to start the half and Beavers freshman quarterback Griffin Dahn responded by leading his team on a gutsy 11-play, 67-yard march.
