The Bulldogs (7-4) saw their season come to an end in Saturday’s playoff opener in a 30-12 elimination loss to Butte (9-2). With a steady rain throughout the afternoon and the natural turf in Oroville growing more muddied as the game wore on, CSM was held to just 250 yards of total offense.

Martinez and Brady’s relationship began in 1992, when Tom Brady Sr. took his son to CSM for some pointers. The lessons never stopped. As Brady blossomed into one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, he kept Martinez close at hand. The coach became a national cult figure known as the “quarterback whisperer.”

With College of San Mateo having already clinched an automatic playoff berth last Saturday with its defeat of Santa Rosa Junior College, Bulldogs head coach Larry Owens turned to backup quarterback Chris Zografos to helm the team in Saturday’s regular-season finale.

Apple Tree Dental, an independent nonprofit, just started a new program in October to provide education, preventive, and restorative dental care to students and faculty at CSM.

Carlos Silva booted a 22-yard field goal with 1:05 remaining in regulation to lift the College of San Mateo Bulldogs to a 26-23 win at Santa Rosa Junior College. With the win, the Bulldogs (4-0 Bay 6, 6-3 overall) clinched at least a share of the Bay 6 Conference title and an automatic berth to the California Community College Athletic Association playoffs, slated to begin Nov. 19.

With College of San Mateo women’s basketball opening its season Friday at home against Hartnell College-Salinas with a 6 p.m. tip-off, head coach Michelle Warner is gunning to return the Lady Bulldogs to the postseason for the first time since 2011-12.

With the California Community College women’s water polo Northern California Regionals on the horizon next weekend, the Lady Bulldogs are hoping the Cinderella finish to their regular season carries them through to the Nor Cal pool.
