Last week, Californians Allied for Patient Protection (CAPP) arranged for Senator Jerry Hill to take a tour of Apple Tree Dental’s newest program to improve access to dental services in the community. Apple Tree Dental, an independent nonprofit and CAPP member, just started a new program in October to provide education, preventive, and restorative dental care to students and faculty at CSM.

Twice a month, Apple Tree’s delivery truck transports a complete mobile dental office to CSM and has it set up inside the building within a matter of minutes. The dental teams provide examinations and check-ups, cleanings, fillings, root canals, and tooth extractions on a regular schedule, creating year-round dental homes for patients. At the end of the day, the mobile equipment is picked-up and delivered to another site. “MICRA’s protections help us keep overhead costs low so our mobile clinic can provide dental care to students – keeping them healthy while they pursue their education,” said Dr. Dick Gregory, Dental Director for Apple Tree Dental. Senator Hill was an early supporter of inviting Apple Tree Dental to San Mateo County.  He was impressed with the range of services provided by the clinic to the students and staff of CSM, and continues to recognizes the importance of providing access to health care in San Mateo County and throughout California.
