College of San Mateo football coach and former Woodside coach Larry Owens will be honored on Saturday with a Lifetime Achievement award and Proclamation from the City of East Palo Alto for his years of service to the community.

Mayor Larry Moody will preside over the presentation and it is expected that Senator Jerry Hill will also be present. Many CSM alums have been invited to speak on how Coach Owens has influenced their lives.

The free celebration at the Boys & Girls Club in East Palo Alto will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. (after 8 a.m. light breakfast snacks). Following a photo opportunity with “Coach O” all youth are invited to attend a free “Larry Owens Youth Football Clinic” with the CSM coaching staff. On Sunday, Woodside High grad and former CSM player Julian Edelman will be seeking his second Super Bowl ring, and the 18th ring for CSM, alongside another former Peninsula player, Tom Brady.

Brady was tutored by the late CSM coach Tom Martinez but did not play for the Bulldogs after competing for Serra High.

Stanford grads Cameron Fleming and Jordan Richards also play for the New England Patriots. They’ll be opposed by Cardinal grads Austin Hooper and Levine Toilolo of the Atlanta Falcons.
