Through last season, CSM and West Valley had played in the same Coast Conference North. Because of a realignment prior to this year, West Valley moved to the Coast Conference South, meaning the Vikings and the Bulldogs have yet to play each other in 2019. That will change Tuesday night when CSM travels to Saratoga for a 7 p.m. start. “Everyone is excited,” CSM head coach Katie Goldhahn said. “West Valley has been on our side of the conference for the last three years (2016-18) … so I think our girls are super excited to see them.”

One of the best defenses in the state just keeps getting better. The College of San Mateo Bulldogs (11-0 overall) carried their undefeated record into the postseason Saturday at College Heights Stadium, shutting out Fresno City College 21-0 for their 11th straight win of the year.

For the first time in modern program history, the College of San Mateo Bulldogs have run the table. With football records from the California Community College Athletic Association website dating back to 1996, the Bulldogs (5-0 Bay 6, 10-0 overall) became the first CSM team since at least that year to go undefeated, finishing off a 10-0 record in regular-season play with a 45-31 victory over City College of San Francisco Saturday at George Rush Stadium.

The College of San Mateo women’s water polo team picked up its second win in Coast Conference play as the Bulldogs rolled over Laney-Oakland, 19-6. The Bulldogs took control of the match early, outscoring the Eagles 7-0 in the opening period. CSM added six more in the second quarter to take a 13-3 lead at halftime.

The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program today named College of San Mateo as one of 150 community colleges eligible to compete for the $1 million Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the nation’s signature recognition of high achievement and performance among America’s community colleges. Based on strong and improving in student outcomes—including in learning, completion rates, employment rates and earnings, and equity—15 percent of community colleges nationwide have been invited to apply for the Aspen Prize.

You’re probably going to experience some growing pains after a 36-year layoff. The College of San Mateo men’s basketball team got off to a tough start, dropping its first three games of 2019-20 at the City College of San Francisco Tournament. The Bulldogs still made a little history, though, as Friday’s game against Santa Rosa Junior College marked their first return to the court since 1983.

It took the College of San Mateo Bulldogs seven plays to put two touchdowns on the board — and this before their offense ever set foot on the field. The unbeaten Bulldogs (3-0 Bay 6, 8-0 overall) rallied to their eighth straight win of the year with a 28-7 victory Friday night at Diablo Valley College (0-3, 3-5) using two pick-6s within the game’s first two minutes to set the tone.
