December, 2019 News

SMCCCD continues its implementation of a robust Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. Here is the December update.

The small schools of the Private School Athletic League are having a big impact on the College of San Mateo girls’ basketball team. When current sophomore Emily Latu arrived on campus in 2017, CSM head coach Michelle Warner had never even heard of the high school she attended. That school is Pacific Bay Christian — formerly known as Alma Heights, the name when Latu was there — a small private school in Pacifica.

The San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCCD) libraries will be moving to a new statewide online catalog December 20, 2019. The state catalog, called OneSearch, will be shared by 112 of the state’s 114 community colleges.

CSM students can now buy their textbooks with credit from their existing financial aid plan. Contact the Financial Aid Office at (650) 574-6147 for more information.

Courtney Townsend had 24 points and 13 rebounds and Emily Latu added 20 points and 12 rebounds as College of San Mateo rolled past visiting Merritt College, 79-54, in the opening game of the annual Tom Martinez Women’s Basketball Invitational at CSM on Monday night.

The magic number to claim an official state football championship appears to be 99. After falling just short in season No. 98, College of San Mateo will have to wait at least another year. Riverside City College, in its 99th year of community college football, took advantage of Bulldogs errors on Saturday to win its first California Community College Athletic Association title, 31-14, at Bakersfield College Memorial Stadium.

Bill Walsh and John Madden. Not to mention Bill Ring and Julian Edelman. In the 98-year history of football at College of San Mateo, there’s no shortage of Super Bowl champions who once played for the Bulldogs. The résumé is yet to be completed, though. Saturday afternoon at Bakersfield College Memorial Stadium, CSM can claim its first-ever state title.

The undefeated CSM Bulldogs recorded their second straight playoff shutout, 41-0 over visiting Modesto JC, for the Northern California Football Conference football championship on Saturday, Nov. 30. At 12-0, the Bulldogs are riding their best record in their 98-year history. They face Riverside City College (also 12-0) in the California Community College Athletic Association title game Bakersfield College Memorial Stadium on Dec. 14 at 1:00 pm.
