Jazz on the Hill returns for College of San Mateo’s (CSM) centennial year on Saturday, July 23, 2022! This day-long celebration is our gift to our local community, as thanks for the support given to College of San Mateo, KCSM-FM 91.1, and San Mateo County Community Colleges Foundation (SMCCCF) over the years. Join us on our beautiful campus for live jazz with a great line-up of musicians who cover many genres from straight-ahead, blues, to Latin and more!

The Marcus Shelby Orchestra featuring Tiffany Austin headlines this year’s festival, along with Lady Bianca, College of San Mateo Faculty Alumni Sextet, The John Santos Jazz Sextet, and DJ Harry Duncan.

The last Jazz on the Hill took place in 2016, and CSM is excited to bring back this special event in 2022. “We’re looking forward to the return of Jazz on the Hill and bringing folks up to our beautiful campus for a fun-filled day of music and community as part of our centennial year celebration,” said CSM President Dr. Jennifer Taylor-Mendoza, “We would love to see you there!”

“We are thrilled about this year’s lineup,” shares Dante Betteo, KCSM’s station manager.  “I know our KCSM listeners will appreciate the acts we were able to get this year. And if you can’t attend the event in person, KCSM will be livestreaming the entire event.”

The Marcus Shelby Orchestra featuring Tiffany Austin will perform a special two-part program for the festival. The first part of the program will honor the rich history of Black baseball, which was commonly called the Negro Leagues. For the second part, they will perform music from their latest recording “Transitions”, which will feature national rising star vocalist Tiffany Austin in a program of original arrangements by Shelby of music by Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and George Shearing. The full schedule is as follows:

We hope the community comes out and celebrates while also helping us raise funds for a great cause.”

There will be food and beverages, arts and crafts vendors, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the sun, the music, and the spectacular views of the Bay Area from the college campus. The stage will be located on the lower mezzanine in front of the library steps, with seating alongside the fountain and plenty of lawn seating.
