The weeklong event at CSM is an extension of the annual Family Science Day that features several new planetary programs geared toward science demonstrations for children to introduce them to science uniquely and tangibly beyond just reading.

Students and local officials gathered at Cañada College Thursday to rally in support of Senate Bill 893, a measure currently awaiting Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signature that, if signed, would allow the San Mateo County residents to attend community college here for free.

College of San Mateo Football (3-0) moved up to No. 2, as the top team in Northern California. College of San Mateo Volleyball, ranked No. 6 in the state, won a pair of matches last week to improve to 7-3 on the season.

College of San Mateo (3-0) won its third straight to start the season, taking care of business with a 35-14 win over Modesto Junior College (1-2).

There are some changes behind pacesetters No. 1 City College of San Francisco and No. 2 Riverside CC in this week’s coaches poll of California Community College Athletic Association football teams, conducted by the JC Athletic Bureau. College of San Mateo, College of the Canyons, and Golden West each moved up one spot behind the pacesetters.

It’s safe to say the College of San Mateo Bulldogs travel well. In Saturday’s first road game of the year, the Bulldogs mauled College of the Sequoias in 45-21 victory at Mineral King Bowl. CSM (2-0) has now outscored two opponents by a cumulative 90-49 to start the year with two straight wins.

Two candidates are vying for an open seat on the San Mateo County Community College District Board of Trustees with one offering decades of community knowledge to the position and the other a fresh perspective.

The College of San Mateo Bulldogs recovered three fumbles, including two highlight-reel forced fumbles, to take control of Saturday’s community college football opener at College Heights Stadium. After a runaway fourth quarter, the Bulldogs (1-0) claimed a 45-28 victory over visiting Sierra College-Rocklin. But only after CSM came out on the short end of a 13-10 halftime score did the ’Dogs’ defense seize the day.

There’s an expectation of greatness at CSM, and for good reason. Until the Bulldogs lost last season’s Nov. 13 regular season finale to City College of San Francisco, they had won 24 straight games in Bay 6 Conference play dating back to 2016, along with four straight Bay 6 titles from 2016-19.

Ngalu — who entered the transfer portal in May — landed at College of San Mateo, where he is on the football roster as a transfer sophomore. The 6-1, 275-pound nose tackle is expected to get regular reps when the Bulldogs open the season at home Saturday against Sierra College. Kickoff at College Heights Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
