College of San Mateo was among a select number of California Community Colleges to be honored with a 2023 Excellence in Placement Award, hosted by The Campaign for College Opportunity. CSM was awarded Campwide Transfer-Level English Enrollment and Equity Designation for LatinX Transfer-Level English Enrollment. The award ceremony will take place on May 31.

The awards acknowledge colleges implementing the policy outlined in Assembly Bill 705. This bill, signed into law in 2017, requires community colleges to place as many students as possible into transfer-level coursework in English and Math within one year. The aim of the legislation is to promote the immediate placement of students in transfer-level courses instead of remedial courses, thereby increasing completion rates.

CSM’s 2023 Excellence in Placement Award:

• Campuswide Transfer-Level English Enrollment – California Community Colleges supporting 100% of their students to enroll directly into transfer-level English coursework. 

CSM’s 2023 Equity Designation Award:

• Equity Designation: Latinx Transfer-Level English Enrollment – California Community Colleges supporting 100% of Latinx students to enroll directly into transfer-level English.
