San Mateo, California; May 19, 2023 – Jazz will be heard through the hills of San Mateo on Saturday, June 10, 2023! Jazz on the Hill – a free community event – is hosted by KCSM Jazz 91.1 for family and friends of the station. It’s a wonderful afternoon to come together and celebrate the beautiful sounds of jazz! Spanish Harlem Orchestra, known as SHO to their fans, will be headlining this year’s Jazz on the Hill taking place on the hilltop of College of San Mateo.

“There is nothing more exciting for us at KCSM than to celebrate the sounds of jazz at Jazz on the Hill with a community that supports the station and jazz musicians throughout the year, worldwide,” said Juanita Celaya, KCSM’s Interim Radio Station Manager.

This year’s festival will kick off at 11am with the inspiring young musicians of the Berkeley High School Combo. Internationally renowned jazz guitarist Mimi Fox and the CSM Little Big Band led by Patrick Wolff will also be performing at this year’s jazz festival. If you are not able to join KCSM on the hilltop, the festival will be simulcasted on Jazz 91.1.

A new tradition of Jazz on the Hill will be the inaugural presentation of the KCSM Jazz Icon Award at this year’s festival. The Jazz Icon Award will be presented to John Handy for his dedication as a performer, composer, educator and historian of jazz. John Handy will be performing with the Akira Tana Quartet.

“Jazz on the Hill is a great opportunity for young people to listen to musicians their age play jazz and learn more about this indigenous American music artform! Elevating the future of young jazz musicians is very important to KCSM,” said Celaya.

Bring your family and friends to enjoy an afternoon of jazz, arts and crafts, a variety of food trucks, fine wine and beers from local purveyors, and the beautiful 360-degree view of the bay from the hilltop of College of San Mateo, the home of KCSM Jazz 91.
