The Lady Bulldogs (8-1 Coast North, 27-2 overall) have thrown four no-hitters this season. They just missed out on no-no No. 5 in Thursday’s 9-0 mercy-rule win at Monterey Peninsula (1-7, 10-17).

College of San Mateo softball took a no-hitter into the fifth and final inning of the abbreviated mercy-rule win, with starting pitcher Kennedie Magorian allowing just two baserunners, both via walk, through four innings of work. But in the fifth, reliever Siona Halwani was greeted with a leadoff double by Katarina Manuofetoa. Halwani set down the next three batters in order, stranding Manuofetoa at second, to preserve the shutout.

It is the ninth one-hitter for Bulldogs pitchers this year, as they lead the state with a 0.92 team ERA.

Freshman shortstop Emma Kinder led CSM at the plate, going 4 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Ari Williams, batting behind Kinder, was 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and two runs. Izzy Cowne was a perfect 3 for 3 with two runs, Ariana Montiel was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, and Luda Gumataotao added two hits and two RBIs.

CSM jumped ahead on Williams’ RBI double in the first-inning. The Bulldogs then added two in the third, four in the fourth and two more in the fifth to notch the mercy-rule differential. Montiel recorded the pivotal eighth run with an RBI double. Kinder followed with an RBI single to add insurance.

The Bulldogs continue to rank tops in Northern California with a .384 team batting average. CSM also boasts the most overall wins in the state with 27, ahead of Southern California power Palomar with a 26-1 record.
