The spring semester has been exciting and rewarding for College of San Mateo’s athletic teams. Our student-athletes have shown exceptional dedication, skill, and sportsmanship across all sports, achieving remarkable records and accolades. Additionally, many teams have significantly contributed to our community, embodying the spirit of service and unity.

 

Softball

Our CSM Softball team had an outstanding spring season. They were named the Coast Conference and NorCal Champions, and they made it to the state Championship game for the 10th consecutive season, finishing fifth this year. Their overall record was 38-7, highlighted by stellar performances from several players. 

Special shoutout to these Bulldogs and their accolades: Ari Williams was named Coast Conference Player of the Year, North All-State Team, Northern California Player of the Year, and NFCA All-American. Kennedie Magorian earned the Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year title, North All-State Team, 2024 3C2A Championship All-Tournament Team, and Emma Kinder was recognized as a 1st Team All-Conference player and All-Northern Region, 2024 3C2A Championship All-Tournament Team, and All-NorCal Team. Vanessa Lang was named to the 1st Team All-Conference, All-Northern Region, 2024 3C2A Championship All-Tournament Team, NFCA All-American, and All-NorCal Team. Megan Barstad earned spots on the 1st Team All-Conference, North All-State Team, 2024 3C2A Championship All-Tournament Team, All-State Team, and Academic All-State. Siona Halwani was on the 1st Team All-Conference, All-Northern Region, and All-NorCal Team. Izzy Cowne was honored to be on the 2nd Team All-Conference and the 2024 3C2A Championship All-Tournament Team. Additionally, student-athletes Luda Gumataotao and Nohemi Livingston earned spots on the 2nd Team All-Conference, and Michelle Hara was honored with placement on the Academic All-State.

Additionally, CSM Coach Nicole Quigley Borg achieved her 600th victory this season in a game against Sacramento City College and was named Coast Conference Coach of the Year!

Community Engagement: This summer, the softball team will host its annual summer camp to help young girls in the community excel in their softball skills.

Baseball

Our Bulldog Baseball team had an impressive season, finishing with a 24-16 record and earning the No. 14 seed in the Northern California Regional Playoffs. Outstanding individual performances drove the team’s success. Will Bowen was named 1st Team All-Conference Outfield and Second Team All-Region, and Vicente Feliciano earned 1st Team All-Conference Infield honors. Noah Kenney was recognized as a 1st Team All-Conference Pitcher. Aidan Taclas was the 1st Team Designated Hitter and 2nd Team All-Region, Joe Cardinale was named 2nd Team Outfield, Rowan Felsch was awarded 2nd Team 1st Base, and Brody Barker earned 2nd Team All-Conference Catcher.

Their dedication and hard work paid off in their regular season achievements and advancement to the playoffs, showcasing their competitive spirit and talent.

Community Engagement: In October 2023, the Baseball team volunteered with Miracle League of San Mateo, contributing their time and energy to support young athletes with disabilities.

Women’s Basketball

Our Women’s Basketball team had a fantastic season, finishing with a 19-10 record and making the playoffs. The team was led by several standout players who received notable performance accolades. Jayonnah Carter earned 3C2A All-State 3rd Team and 1st Team All-Conference honors. Joselyn Moore received 2nd Team All-Conference recognition. Deanna Ayao, Arianna Jordan, and Ariel Petalver were all acknowledged with All-Conference Honorable Mentions.

Men’s Basketball

Our Men’s Basketball team had a competitive season, finishing with a 14-15 record and making the playoffs. The team was led by standout players JJ Montgomery Jr. and Pawllos Habtom, who were named First Team All-Conference. Jack Busenhart also received recognition with an All-Conference Honorable Mention.

Track and Field

Our Bulldog Track and Field team had an exceptional season, marked by impressive individual performances and notable achievements across various events. Aiydan Bague was the Coast Conference Co-Champion in the high jump, securing 3rd place in both the long and triple jumps. At the NorCal level, he placed 4th in the high jump, 2nd in the triple jump, and 7th in the long jump, and was a State Qualifier in all three events, finishing 5th in the Men’s High Jump. Jane Taufa excelled in the shot put, earning 2nd place in the Coast Conference and NorCal competitions and securing 3rd place in the women’s shot put at the state level, earning her 2024 All-American Honors. Milo Greenwood placed 4th in the javelin throw at the Coast Conference, 6th at the NorCal level, and was a State Qualifier, finishing 7th in the javelin throw. Brandon Beane achieved 3rd place in the javelin throw at both the Coast Conference and NorCal levels, and was a State Meet Qualifier, placing 8th in the javelin throw. Daren Randolph was the Coast Conference Co-Champion in the high jump and placed 5th in the long jump, qualifying for the State Meet in the high jump. Zoe Thompson became the Coast Conference Champion in the 800m and was a NorCal Qualifier in the same event. Brevan Rohde placed 3rd in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles at the Coast Conference, securing 5th place in the 110m hurdles at the NorCal level. Jordan Flowers was the Coast Conference Champion in the javelin throw and a NorCal Qualifier.

Women’s Beach Volleyball

Our Beach Volleyball team had an impressive season, finishing with a 14-11 record and making it to the state playoffs. Olivia Harrison stood out, earning the CCCWVCA State Player of the Week title. The team’s dedication and hard work throughout the season paid off as they competed at a high level and advanced to the playoffs, showcasing their talent and determination.

Swimming and Diving

The 2024 CSM swim season concluded with strong performances at the Coast Conference Championships. The CSM Women’s Swimming and Diving team secured sixth place with 280 points, while the Men’s Swimming and Diving team finished eighth with 147 points. Notable individual performances included Anja Linkwitz, Frejya Horn, Maddy Hsu, and Claire Taggart for the women and Danny Rendon, Arman Zahabi, Armand Royeca, and Arvin Arbabi for the men.

 

Football

CSM’s Football team had an outstanding Fall 2024 Semester, achieving success on and off the field. Not only did they clinch the NorCal Championship, but they also excelled in the classroom with an impressive average team GPA of 3.42. An astonishing 94 players achieved GPAs of 3.0 or higher, marking an incredible 42 consecutive semesters with an average team GPA above 3.0. On the field, the CSM football program continued its historic run, securing the Northern California Championship for the second year in a row and being named the Bay Six Conference Champions. Seventeen student-athletes were awarded an All-Bay 6 Conference accolade after their season.

Community Engagement: In March 2024, the CSM football team actively engaged in community service. They volunteered at P.I.E.F.E.S.T. (Pacific Islanders Encouraging Fun, Engineering, Science, and Technology), contributing to activities promoting education and STEM fields. Additionally, the team participated in Literacy Week at a local elementary school, where they spent time in classrooms supporting young students’ reading and literacy skills.
