College of San Mateo’s Andrew Silva is set to head off to Paris this weekend as part of the USA Water Polo contingent from the 2024 Olympic Games.

CSM’s head water polo and swimming coach is part of the coaching and support staff for USA Water Polo’s three-time defending champion Women’s Olympic Team, in the role of Video Coordinator.

The American team completed a series of practice sessions in San Mateo County at Atherton’s Sacred Heart Prep, while also playing final tune-up games against Hungary at the Stanford and Cal aquatic complexes during that period.

Also present for the local sessions was USA Water Polo’s newly signed official hype man, rapper Flavor Flav, who announced a 5-year sponsor deal.

Silva’s video coordinator position entails filming and recording game data during all official team competitions and training scrimmages, as well as recording games from other countries in the tournament for scouting purposes. These video packages are used by the coaching staff in team meetings and made available to the individual Team USA athletes.

“Any time you have the opportunity to be part of a staff representing our country in international competition it’s an honor, but the Olympic Games are truly special,” Silva said. “I feel so incredibly fortunate that I get to play a small role in supporting the USA Water Polo women’s coaching staff and athletes in Paris. This is the highest form of professional development I can possibly participate in. The time I spend with this team helps me to become a better coach and program administrator for the CSM student athletes and the campus.”

Silva most recently served in a similar role during the 2024 World Aquatics World Championships held in Doha, Qatar in February, where the USA won the tournament title and Gold Medal.

The USA team opens Paris Olympic competition on Saturday, July 27, against Greece.
