Before the start of the fall semester, College of San Mateo hosted its annual New Faculty Orientation. This year’s event welcomed seven recently hired full-time permanent and full-time temporary faculty members and gave them a comprehensive introduction to the College and its vibrant community.
The day started with a warm welcome from Academic Senate President Todd Windisch and remarks from our new College President, Dr. Manuel Alejandro Pérez. Dr. Pérez highlighted the theme of “Critical Connections,” underscoring CSM’s Mission statement that College of San Mateo truly belongs to the community it serves.
Throughout the day, new faculty could engage with their colleagues, meet staff and administrators, and learn about the College’s vital support programs and services during an informative campus tour. The orientation concluded with a luncheon in the College Heights Conference Room, where representatives from the Academic Senate, AFT, Classified Senate, CSEA, and CSM’s Associated Students shared valuable insights. This event introduces the New Faculty Institute, a year-long professional development program designed to equip new educators with the resources and activities to promote their teaching and institutional agency.
This year’s cohort of new faculty members brings diverse expertise and experience to the CSM community. Krista Bailey, an instructor in Anatomy & Physiology, will join the Biology Department. Iqbal Bismillah will join the Art Department, and Larry McDevitt will be part of the Administration of Justice program. Sharon Quach, with a focus on transfer students, joins the Counseling Division. Hector Sanchez and Anthony Scoggins will contribute to the English Department and serve as Coordinators for the Puente learning community. Not pictured is Alexandra Urbina, who will join as a Counselor specializing in CSM’s Academic and Career Communities.
As these new educators embark on their journey at CSM, their arrival symbolizes the College’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and community engagement. Dr. Manuel Alejandro Pérez noted, “We are excited to welcome such a talented and diverse group of educators to our CSM community. Their fresh perspectives and commitment to student success will enrich our campus and help us continue to build an inclusive and innovative learning environment.”
College of San Mateo is eagerly anticipating the contributions of these new faculty members as they embark on their journey to inspire and educate the next generation of students. We are excited to see how their fresh perspectives and commitment to student success will enrich our campus and help us continue to build an inclusive and innovative learning environment.
