College of San Mateo has hosted track and field for generations, but it’s safe to say no single hurdling feat has electrified like that of football standout Lolo Mataele. The sophomore running back produced the highlight of CSM’s season to date, turning a 69-yard touchdown run into a steeple chase in leading the Bulldogs (2-0 Bay 6, 6-1 overall) to a 49-14 win Saturday at College Heights Stadium over the Foothill Owls (1-1, 4-2).

The San Mateo County Community College District is continuing to see enrollment increases following the implementation of its free college initiative, following a decade of declines. Since fall 2022, the semester before the implementation of free college, the district has now seen a 24% increase in student head count, reported Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Storti at a board meeting Oct. 23. Enrollment increased 6% for the fall 2024 semester compared to spring 2024.

College of San Mateo (CSM) celebrated a significant milestone on Thursday, October 17, with the grand opening of its new Coastside campus in downtown Half Moon Bay. The ribbon-cutting ceremony drew community members, local officials, students, and college representatives, all excited to mark CSM’s return to the Coastside after a decade-long hiatus.

CSM (1-0 Bay 6, 5-1 overall) opened its Bay 6 Conference football schedule with a rowdy and oftentimes volatile showing Friday night in San Ramon, but the legs of running back Malakai DeMoss and punter Tashi Dorje carried the Bulldogs to a 27-14 victory over Diablo Valley College.

CSM men’s basketball coach Mike Marcial, along with longtime CSM women’s coach Michelle Warner, are putting on what they’re calling “Bulldog Madness,” with a number of events being held to generate interest in the respective programs Oct. 12 at the CSM gym starting at noon and running to 4 p.m. Golden State Warriors “hype man” Franco Finn will serve as master of ceremonies. Admission is free and refreshments are available, as well.

The Bulldogs’ secondary stepped up big time Saturday at College Heights Stadium. College of San Mateo (4-1) is becoming notorious for close-scoring games, and the final non-conference game on its schedule was no different. CSM scored two touchdowns in the second quarter and made them hold up for a thrilling 14-7 victory over Fresno City College. It is the fourth one-score differential in five games this season for the “leave no doubt” Bulldogs.
