College of San Mateo wrapped up a third straight Bay 6 Conference football title with a 61-7 victory over visiting San Joaquin Delta College Saturday, all but clinching home playoff game when the Bulldogs begin the defense of their Northern California title later this month.

The Bulldogs (8-1) have now won 20 consecutive home games and will close out regular-season competition Friday night at Laney College-Oakland at 7 p.m.

Dieter Kelly set a CSM record with a 52-yard field goal and has now hit from 50, 51, and 52 yards this season in racking up 14 field goals, to lead all Northern California kickers, and ranking No. 2 in the state.

Regarding the 52-yard boot: “He had more room on that,” CSM head coach Tim Tulloch said.

Kelly tied the former Bulldogs mark of 51 yards against American River in September. Gabe Plascencia, now at San Diego State, had set the record in 2021 against Modesto and also set the CSM season record of 14 field goals — which Kelly has now tied.

Sophomore running back Lolo Mataele gave San Mateo its initial lead in the first quarter with a 42-yard run, and scored twice to add to his Bay 6 rushing TD lead, now at 12. Mataele increased his Bay 6 rushing lead with 134 yards on 15 carries for a total of 812 yards (90.2 per-game average). He ranks second in Bay 6 with 72 points, one behind pacesetter Kelly. They are the state’s top 1-2 scoring duo, with 145 total points.

Quarterback Dominic Ingrassia had another awesome performance, winning his sixth straight game since coming into emergency duty off the grayshirt list. The freshman completed 13-of-19 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns, without being picked off. That improves his Bay 6 leading efficiency rating to an outstanding 161.7.

Backup quarterback Conner Annicharico totaled four second-half completions for 45 yards. The Bulldogs accumulated 264 passing yards against the winless Mustangs (0-9).

On the TD receiving end were Jaelin Green (15 yards), Hassan Mahasin (25 yards), and KB Boone-Nelson (39 yards). Mahasin and Boone-Nelson lead CSM with 27 pass receptions apiece on the season.

With 317 rushing yards, San Mateo had 581 total offense yards — while limiting the Mustangs to 184.

Delta’s only scoring drive was enhanced by four major penalties against the Bulldogs to reach the CSM 5-yard line, after which a short Ubedei Megautha pass to Anthony Bridges made it 21-7 with 53 second left in the first half.

CSM quickly countered with Boone-Nelson returning the kickoff 18 yards to the San Mateo 45. Following a pass interference call against the Mustangs, Boone-Nelson took a 39-yard TD reception from Ingrassia to make it 28-7 at the intermission.

San Mateo also had a pick-6 in the second half. Dom Lampkin intercepted Megautha at the Delta 25 and ran it to the end zone. The Mustangs also turned it over on their next possession. Trevon Watson forced a fumble, which Kyle Hal recovered on the CSM 29. Ali Collier starred on the drive and highlighted his 74-yard rushing afternoon with a 16-yard scoring run to put the “Leave No Doubt” Bulldogs over the 50-point mark for a second straight week at 52-7 with a full quarter of play remaining.

In the final period, Kelly had his second field goal of the game, 29 yards, totaling 13 points in the contest. John Stowers did much of the late rushing, carrying eight times for 72 yards, including the final 7-yard TD run.

CSM did not need to punt in the game, scoring on nearly every possession — so Tashi Dorje easily held on to his state punting lead with his 43.4-yard average.

Ezra Funa led the Bulldogs defense with six tackles. John Gayer had four tackles, including a sack. He ranks third overall in the state with 9 1/2 season sacks, and has 15 1/2 tackles for loss. Lampin also had four tackles.

CSM was flagged 13 times for 125 yards.

Although the Bulldogs have clinched the league’s state playoff berth, they need a win at Laney Friday night to avoid a possible Bay 6 title tie with second-place Foothill. Fifth-place Laney will be honoring retiring head coach John Beam, who recently led the Eagles to league and state titles.
