Two days, two track state championships for College of San Mateo.

Aiydan Bague became CSM’s first men’s triple jump champion Friday, winning the California Community College Athletic Association track and field championship event at College Heights Stadium with a leap of 49 feet, 2 1/4 inches, extending his own state season lead in the event by more than a foot and a half. Bague was in second place going into the final three jumps and needed to top 49 feet on his sixth and final effort to beat Brandyn Wetherspoon of Mt. San Antonio College, who settled for silver at 48-10 1/4.

CSM hosted the state meet for the fourth time. It continued to pay off on Saturday. CSM’s Jane Taufa put the shot 45 feet, 10 3/4 inches to extend her own state season lead and win the women’s state crown by more than three feet. The sophomore had four puts beyond her incoming state season lead of 43-9 3/4.

The Modesto Junior College women and the Riverside City College men claimed the team championships.

The men’s meet went down to the concluding 4×400 meter relay, with Riverside (90 points) leading Mt. SAC (88.5) and San Diego Mesa (83). San Diego Mesa won the race handily with a state season best 3 minutes, 12.65 seconds time for 10 points. Riverside, however, finished second (3:16.14) for eight points, to clinch the title.

Modesto wrapped up the women’s title a bit earlier, sitting comfortably in the lead with 87.5 points after freshman Shayan Roy-Williams took the 200 meters in 24.01 to complete a sprint double. Modesto totaled 91.5 points, ahead of Riverside (75), and San Diego Mesa (74).

CSM finishes the 2024-25 school year with four overall state champions.

Sunday, CSM softball completed a perfect four-day run through the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) state softball championship tournament at West Valley College in Saratoga, outscoring state No. 1 ranked Palomar College, 7-4, in the title game. It was the Bulldogs’ second state softball title, and second the last four years.

CSM claimed the 3C2A football championship in December, also on its home turf, defeating Mt. San Antonio College.
