Districtwide student housing at College of San Mateo is inching closer to becoming a reality after the community college district’s Board of Trustees approved a $61.85 million contract with developers who intend to break ground in the spring.

The College of San Mateo Bulldogs made their return to the state championship stage twice as nice. Playing for their third California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) state football championship in four years, the Bulldogs averted disaster, holding off a late comeback surge by Golden West College-Huntington Beach for a 28-27 victory Saturday afternoon at Lebard Stadium on the campus of Orange Coast College.

December opened with eight current Bulldogs finalizing their transfers to NCAA Division I programs during the early signing period Dec. 3-5. CSM closed out that week with something of an annual tradition, claiming the program’s fourth straight California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) Northern California football championship last Saturday with 38-7 victory over Modesto Junior College.

It will be a fourth straight trip to the 3C2A state football championship game for defending state (and mythical national) champion College of San Mateo after a convincing 38-7 Northern California Football Conference title victory over visiting rival Modesto JC on Saturday afternoon at College Heights Stadium. That ended a NorCal National Division 7-game win streak for the Valley League champion Pirates (9-3) – that had started after a September non-league loss to CSM.
