The California 15th District representative honored the Bulldogs’ back-to-back championship run in remarks delivered in the U.S. House of Representatives.

College of San Mateo’s Bulldogs are receiving national recognition, this time from the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Congressman Kevin Mullin, who represents California’s 15th Congressional District, delivered remarks recognizing CSM Football’s back-to-back championship run and celebrating the student-athletes who helped make it possible.

Dr. Manuel Alejandro Pérez, President of College of San Mateo, said the recognition is a meaningful moment not only for the program but also for the wider campus community that supports scholar-athletes’ success.

“Having our Bulldogs recognized on the House floor is a special honor,” Pérez said. “Our scholar-athletes have earned this moment through excellence in the classroom and on the field, and we are proud of the coaches, faculty, and staff who support them every step of the way.” The Bulldogs’ latest title was sealed with a dramatic 28–27 win over Golden West College in the 3C2A state championship, securing the program’s first back-to-back state crowns and its third title in four years.

Head coach Tim Tulloch emphasized that the team’s success is rooted in a culture that pushes players to grow as students and as leaders. “Being two-time state champions speaks to who these students are and what they’ve built—this team will always be part of our school’s history,” Tulloch said.

At CSM, that success is built on a holistic approach that connects on-field performance with expectations in the classroom. The Bulldogs continue to earn attention not only for wins, but also for academic achievement and transfer outcomes. This student-first culture is strengthened by learning communities designed specifically for football-playing student-athletes.

Writing in the End Zone, launched in 2004, links English and Physical Education and was created in response to low success, retention, and persistence rates for male student athletes in English courses. The model has also inspired additional academic support programs, including Math in the End Zone, which is designed to help football student-athletes build confidence and momentum in math while reinforcing habits that support long-term success.

The Congressional recognition adds to a growing list of postseason honors for the Bulldogs, including All-American selections and Coach of the Year accolades for Tulloch.

Also coming this weekend, NBC Sports is scheduled to spotlight CSM Football in an approximately five-minute feature airing Sunday, February 8, in the lead-up to Super Bowl LX. Additional details will be shared in a separate announcement, so stay tuned.
