Fifteen up. Fifteen down. College of San Mateo sophomore Gianna Tassio fired an abbreviated five-inning perfect game to lead the Bulldogs (5-0 Coast, 26-0 overall) to an 8-0 softball victory Saturday at Hartnell College. Undefeated CSM has now won 26 straight games to start the season. The program’s overall win streak dating back to last season is at 42 games.

The College of San Mateo Bulldogs have been on fire since the start of Coast North Conference baseball play. CSM (6-0 Coast North, 18-7) rolled to its sixth straight win to open conference play Saturday with a 17-2 shellacking of De Anza College on the Hilltop. The Bulldogs’ 16 hits improved their team batting average to .306 overall, including a state-best .416 in conference games.

Among his many accomplishments, Rush developed the Chronomix timing system and was elected to four hall of fames: The California Community College Track and Cross Country Coaches Association (1996), the San Mateo High School Athletic Hall of Fame twice, as a coach and again with the 1964 team that was nationally ranked (2007 and 2011). His final honor was a place in the College of San Mateo Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.

Ten players have now slammed home runs this season for the top slugging team in the state. And this may have been the most important. Peyton Huber’s three-run blast over the left field fence in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 deadlock and propelled visiting College of San Mateo (22-0) past previously unbeaten West Valley (19-1) Tuesday in a Coast Conference showdown in Saratoga.

College of San Mateo was recently honored by Stanford University with its Community Partnership Award, recognizing CSM’s Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Program’s impactful collaboration with the Stanford Community College Outreach Program (CCOP) and its commitment to expanding STEM opportunities for community college students.

One of the top hitting softball teams in the state, the College of San Mateo Bulldogs rolled their their 21st straight win to open 2026 with their biggest offensive explosion yet.

College of San Mateo is coming off quite a week on the softball diamond. The week started with a boost as freshman pitcher Lola Sierra was named the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Pitcher of the Week after posting a 2-0 record for the week of Feb. 15-21.
