Five years ago, CalCPA implemented the Campus Ambassador Program for students attending four-year schools in an effort to support their studies and secure a stronger transition into the accounting profession. This year, CalCPA expanded the program with an experiment. It selected two community colleges to adopt the Campus Ambassador Program.

CSM’s 4th Annual Earth Day Job Fair was a rollicking success. The college hosted the event on April 18th made up of 20+ exhibitors, including green jobs and internships, sustainable food and tech, environmental justice and student clubs.

Deciding upon a career path in the San Francisco Bay Area can be both challenging and exciting. Amongst the most respected positions an individual can pursue is a career in higher education.

Assistant Professor of Art Rebecca Alex has developed partnerships between the CSM and four arts organizations: Peninsula Museum of Art, City Arts of San Mateo, Peninsula Arts Council and Manor House.

For the first time, California community college students interested in a particular career can check a new state website to see what people earn after completing a degree or certificate in the field.

An artist’s reception on Saturday from 2-4 pm celebrates the group photography exhibit “From Mind to Lens” at Avenue 25 Gallery in San Mateo. The show is on view through March 2.

U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier hosted her sixth local Job Hunters Boot Camp on the campus of College of San Mateo with about 700 attending. Her first was back in January 2010 and she intends to keep putting on the events until they are no longer needed.

CSM has been awarded two grants through the California Community Colleges State Chancellor’s Office for $300,000 and $148,000 respectively, under the Economic and Workforce Development Program.

A number of career specialists are in the midst of starting up a nonprofit group, Phase2Careers, that will specialize in helping people over 40 find new jobs in the Bay Area.
