College of San Mateo Adjunct Professor Shulamit Hoffmann will guest conduct at Carnegie Hall in New York on June 29, fulfilling a long-held dream. The featured work is Vivaldi’s Gloria in D, RV 589 for choir, orchestra, and soloists.

“As Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons is the most popular classical orchestral work, his Gloria is certainly one of the most popular works in the canon of sacred choral-orchestral repertoire,” said Shulamit. “To conduct from the same podium that Tchaikovsky used to inaugurate Carnegie in 1891 is the dream of my conducting life. All the greats have made music at Carnegie. I hope we imbibe their vibes.”

For the June 29 concert, 170 singers will make up the massed choir. Participating choirs include Hillsdale High School choirs, where a number of CSM concurrent enrollment classes such as music are taught. They will be joined by choirs from Kentucky, New Jersey, and New York, the New England Symphonic Ensemble, and accomplished soloists.

Hoffmann will rehearse the massed choir, the orchestra, and the soloists separately. Then, she will take her place on the podium at Carnegie Hall and conduct the entire group and her dream will finally come true.

The performance is given under the auspices of Mid America Productions. For more information visit www.midamerica-music.com.
