Coastside News

More than a decade after the College of San Mateo closed its Coastside branch in Shoreline Station, a new Coastside college facility opened this week in the just-completed building at 650 Mill St.

College of San Mateo (CSM) celebrated a significant milestone on Thursday, October 17, with the grand opening of its new Coastside campus in downtown Half Moon Bay. The ribbon-cutting ceremony drew community members, local officials, students, and college representatives, all excited to mark CSM’s return to the Coastside after a decade-long hiatus.

The College of San Mateo returns to Half Moon Bay with a permanent location hosting two classrooms and administrative buildings, providing expanded and equitable opportunities for the coastside community.

College of San Mateo (CSM) proudly announces the grand opening of its Coastside Educational Facility in Half Moon Bay, an extension of the CSM main campus that will provide expanded educational opportunities and career pathways for the Coastside community for all current and future students, especially our Latinx, Chinese, and Migrant Farm Worker communities. This initiative is part of CSM’s continued commitment to advancing equity and fostering economic mobility through education.

Half Moon Bay planners last week approved College of San Mateo Community College District plans to move forward on opening two classrooms downtown. City and college officials believe the new space will provide educational opportunities for Coastsiders unable to access the main campus in San Mateo.

A program webpage and registration form are available, allowing interested students to review program details and sign up. Those who are approved to access the new service are eligible for 40 monthly Lyft rides between CSM and 10 different designated locations throughout Half Moon Bay, El Granada, Moss Beach, and Montara.

A large joint-use facility – housing a new local library, a permanent Coastside community college campus and various San Mateo County satellite offices – could be built in the coming years in the greater Half Moon Bay area, if preliminary plans being discussed by several agencies come to fruition.
