Reedley College was ground into its second football loss of the season Saturday by the state’s 24th-ranked team.

Host San Mateo, relying heavily on a potent rushing attack, buried the Tigers early en route to a 48-14 nonconference victory.

The Bulldogs were coming off a 43-7 shellacking by Fresno City College and apparently weren’t in a mood to let up once they started scoring.

San Mateo led 34-0 at the half and ran it to 48-0 before Reedley got on the board late in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs (1-1) piled up 487 of their 577 yards on the ground. Kenya Price rushed only eight times but gained 188 yards. He opened the scoring with a 67-yard run. Chris Miller returned a fumble 48 yards for a score that made it 41-0 midway through the fourth quarter.

Reedley’s Joshua Andrews scored on a 3-yard run with 4:40 remaining and Michael Ferrara-Weed threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Tereso Guevara with 49 seconds left.

The Tigers (0-2) had 303 yards of offense, 200 through the air. Ferrara-Weed completed 20 of 39 passes with no interceptions and now has four touchdown passes this season.
