Needing just one more win to advance to the super regionals, College of San Mateo left nothing to chance Sunday in an 8-0 mercy-ruled victory over visiting American River in Game 2 of the best-of-three first-round state playoff series.

CSM (38-4) will host the three-day four-team super regional tournament that opens Friday. The Bulldogs, a No. 2 seed in Northern California, will open the tournament at about 2 p.m. on Friday.

Mikayla Conlin’s two-run homer in the top of the first highlighted a three-run inning that set the tone for CSM. Conlin was 2 for 3 with three RBI.

Capuchino grad Michele Pilster (28-3) pitched a four-hitter.

Jamie Navarro (Capuchino) and Selina Rodriguez (El Camino) each contributed two hits.

No. 1 Siskiyous (37-2) will host the other Northern California super regional in Weed. Regional winners advance to the May 18-20 state championships at Bakersfield College.
