The streak is over. The College of San Mateo softball team, ranked No. 1 in the state and a winner of its previous 26 games in a row, was belted 15-9 by visiting San Jose City College on Wednesday afternoon. The teams entered the seventh inning tied 8-8 before the Jaguars scored seven times.

San Jose outhit San Mateo outhit 20-13. Both teams made two errors.

Kayleen Smith (4-for-4, two runs, RBI), Raquel Martinez (3-for-4, a double, two runs scored, RBI), Brooke Ramsey (2-for-4, home run, two runs scored, RBI) and Talisa Fiame (2-for-3, a double, a run scored, two RBIs) led the Bulldogs at the plate. Skania Lemus tripled and drove in two runs.

The Jaguars knocked out CSM starter Ashlynne Neil in the third inning, then put up 11 earned runs on reliever Lauren Berriatua in 4 2/3 innings.

The Bulldogs (30-2, 11-1 Coast North) had not lost since Feb. 4.
