Earlier this month, the CSM Dual Enrollment team hosted a 2-day summer experience, “Strategies for Successful Teaching in Dual Enrollment” for the college’s new and returning faculty who will be teaching dual enrollment courses in the new academic year.

Topics, activities, and discussions covered the importance of building classroom culture with students, engagement strategies using technology, commitment to thoughtful and ongoing communication, and equity-focused instruction. The experience concluded with the group hearing from a panel of students, Ms. Mele Petelo, Mr. Luke Nessel, and Mr. James Huffman-Jimenez, about their own experiences taking CSM Dual Enrollment classes during the ‘22–‘23 academic year and how it has impacted and influenced their decision to commit and attend CSM this fall.

Participating faculty and staff are excited for the new academic year ahead and are committed to building excellent in-classroom experiences and creating greater opportunities and connection to CSM for all dual enrollment students.

Additionally, this month the CSM Dual Enrollment team, in partnership with San Mateo Union High School District, co-hosted our inaugural “Dual Enrollment Launch” event, bringing in CSM faculty, high school partner teachers and site administers, and high school district partners, to kick off the new academic year together.

The day was truly inspiring as attendees engaged in networking, aligning our efforts with a clear purpose, developing curriculum and programming with a focus on equity, exchanging best practices, and reinforcing our shared dedication to excellence.

The CSM campus is actively working towards fostering a sense of community and exploring strategic approaches to enhance our partnerships, all centered around serving the needs of our students. We are so appreciative of the support provided by SMCCCD, CSM, and our high school partners (SMUHSD and CUSD) and are committed to continuing to grow the CSM Dual Enrollment Program and creating dynamic and memorable experiences for students.
