College of San Mateo thrower Nikki Uikilifi took advantage of competing with an Olympic champion to produce the No. 3 women’s discus throw by a California Community College athlete this season at CSM’s Lucky 13 Invitational on Friday at College Heights Stadium.

The College of San Mateo is inducting its first class into the school’s athletic hall of fame, led by Oakland Raiders legend John Madden.

On September 23, at 4pm, College of San Mateo will honor nine decades of its athletic legacy when it dedicates the Athletic Hall of Fame Plaza during a ribbon cutting ceremony. Sixteen former athletes and coaches will be inducted in the inaugural class of inductees and their names will be enshrined on granite and bronze pillars permanently on display in the Plaza.

In the 2010 version of the JC baseball post season, College of San Mateo and Cañada College entered as favorites after winning their respective divisions. While the Colts stumbled early, the Bulldogs were able to ride their No. 1 seed all the way to the state championship — a series they lost to Ohlone College. This year, with visions of Bakersfield in mind, both teams will have work with lower-than-accustomed seeds.

Global footwear and apparel company, Saucony, chose College of San Mateo’s track facility as one of its prime locations for filming much of the footage to produce ads for its new national branding campaign, Find Your Strong.

After beating City College of San Francisco, the College of San Mateo football team now finds itself rooting for the Rams this weekend.

Kelly Young completed her College of San Mateo track and field career by scoring in all four women’s throwing events at the California Community College Athletic Association Championships, which CSM hosted over the weekend.

Danielle Donohue set a College of San Mateo record in the 10,000 meters at the Northern California finals at Diablo Valley College to become the first Bulldog to advance to the state championships at CSM on May 15-16.

With about a lap and a half to go in the men’s 1500-meter run in the Coast Conference Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the College of San Mateo, CSM’s Brandon Becerra was way back in the 15-man pack.
