Yan-Jun “Sophie” Liao has already become the most accomplished College of San Mateo women’s sprinter this century. Now, she is shooting for the best standing in program history.

Having grown up in Taipei City, Yan-Jun “Sophie” Liao relocated to Foster City late last year for the opportunity to further an already prestigious amateur track and field career. As a freshman at College of San Mateo, she has certainly done that, having emerged as one of the greatest sprinters in the history of the women’s program.

A little less than a month ago, the College of San Mateo baseball team was scuffling, having dropped four of five. A 19-4 loss to Mission College April 2 was the low point — but it also happened be the turning point for the Bulldogs’ season.

Karalius joined the Bulldogs’ rotation by firing the first no-hitter for a CSM pitcher in at least a quarter century in a 10-0 win over De Anza at Bulldog Stadium.

If you’re a track and field fan, I suggest you take in a College of San Mateo track meet before one of the best sprinters you’ll ever get to see in person moves on.
