The College of San Mateo Bulldogs, en route to last season’s state football championship, experienced one hiccup. A second-half meltdown on Feb. 21, 2022 at Diablo Valley College saw a 21-point halftime lead slip away in a 23-21 defeat, the only loss of CSM’s season. The memory loomed large through the past week in the Bulldogs’ preparation for DVC’s visit Saturday to Bulldog Stadium. The preparation, done with a chip on the Bulldogs’ collective shoulder, certainly paid off.

The College of San Mateo Bulldogs scored more points than they have in seven years, and it was the Dogs’ defense that set the scoring spree in motion.

College of San Mateo (CSM) and its Fire Technology Program hosted the NorCal Women in the Fire Service in an enriching collaboration with NorCal First Alarm Girls Fire Camp on Saturday, September 16, 2023. This groundbreaking initiative, offered without charge, spanned two days, targeting regional high school girls from grades 9–12. The event was curated to provide these budding professionals with a comprehensive introduction to the rewarding career field of fire service in the Bay Area.

On Sunday, October 8, the baseball field was filled with smiles as the CSM baseball team took to the pitch, not for their regular game but for a special event with The Miracle League of San Francisco Peninsula. Under the leadership of their new head coach, Riley Goulding, the Bulldogs partnered with this local organization to spend quality time with disabled ball players of all ages to share the love of baseball.

In a recently unveiled study by one of CSM’s partnering organizations, United Way Bay Area (UWBA), the effectiveness of CSM’s SparkPoint Center is shining through. The study findings reveal that students who received SparkPoint’s robust services exhibited a significantly higher tendency to stay enrolled and attain their academic objectives.

While state champion College of San Mateo continues to lead the JC Athletic Bureau’s poll of California Community College Football Coaches Association members, there was a slight shuffle among others in the top four this week. CSM took eight first place votes and its Bay 6 League rival City College of San Francisco grabbed the other two to move into a tie with Riverside City College for the No. 2 spot in the rankings, just one vote ahead of Mt. San Antonio. All are 4-0, as is Fullerton, which moved up one position to No. 5.

Riley Goulding announced Monday night on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he has been promoted to head coach for the College of San Mateo baseball team. According to an X post in August, Goulding identified himself as head coach and was looking for assistants.

The College of San Mateo Bulldogs illustrated the old football adage in real time, with a thrilling finish Saturday at College Heights Stadium. The Bulldogs held on for a 24-23 over American River College, denying the Beavers a potential go-ahead two-point conversion attempt in the closing seconds of the game.

The College of San Mateo Bulldogs had no trouble moving the ball in their Week 3 road trip to Modesto. CSM (3-0) racked up 619 total yards of offense to come away with a 37-20 win Saturday afternoon at Modesto Junior College. Scoring the football, however, took some doing. After a first half plagued with poor execution in the red zone, the Bulldogs took a 14-7 deficit into halftime.

The spirit of unity and empowerment was palpable as IX in Action, the dynamic learning community for female student-athletes at College of San Mateo (CSM), embarked on their second annual Half Moon Bay fall kickoff event. This eagerly anticipated event, held right before the start of the fall semester, marks the beginning of a new academic year filled with growth, camaraderie, and achievement.
