Feldman — a Burlingame graduate and former College of San Mateo star — signed a one-year deal with the Cubs prior to this season and has righted the ship after a slow start with his new team.

Over the past 10 years, Marsh Feldman has been an easy person to spot. The man in the pristine Texas Rangers ball cap, who can generally be found at a San Mateo County baseball diamond somewhere — that’s Marsh.

It’s been half a lifetime since Robert Stirm, an alumnus of College of San Mateo, was freed from a notorious North Vietnamese prison, nicknamed the Hanoi Hilton. Next March will mark the 40th anniversary of his release.

After searching the web, the 2011 Aragon High School and San Mateo Middle College graduate, Megan Ryan, came across Bike & Build — a nonprofit that organizes cross-country cycling trips to benefit affordable housing in the United States.

Les Williams was the first African-American bomber pilot during World War II as one of the Tuskegee Airmen and broke racial barriers as a businessman in San Mateo County in the postwar years.

An artist’s reception on Saturday from 2-4 pm celebrates the group photography exhibit “From Mind to Lens” at Avenue 25 Gallery in San Mateo. The show is on view through March 2.

The College of San Mateo is inducting its first class into the school’s athletic hall of fame, led by Oakland Raiders legend John Madden.

It’s been more than 25 years since she played third base for the Bulldogs. She’s now married with two children, living on the Coastside and working at Pescadero High School. But she’s not been forgotten. Freeman is part of a class of 16 who will be inducted Friday into the inaugural College of San Mateo sports Hall of Fame, including five posthumously.

On September 23, at 4pm, College of San Mateo will honor nine decades of its athletic legacy when it dedicates the Athletic Hall of Fame Plaza during a ribbon cutting ceremony. Sixteen former athletes and coaches will be inducted in the inaugural class of inductees and their names will be enshrined on granite and bronze pillars permanently on display in the Plaza.
