McAdams has developed into one of the best pitchers in the state. The sophomore at College of San Mateo is wrapping up her two-year stay with the Bulldogs with a second straight appearance in the state tournament and helped the program continue its string of state tournament berths to seven years in a row.

No one has slugged it better than the Lady Bulldogs this season. The College of San Mateo softball team powered their way to the No. 1 ranking in Northern California by leading all California community colleges in slugging percentage (.575) and runs scored (tied with 353). It was the arm of Emily McAdams, however, that delivered the Bulldogs to the state championship tournament for the seventh straight year.

The College of San Mateo baseball and softball teams were two of the hottest teams down the stretch to end the regular season. CSM baseball (28-11) ended the regular season with an 11-game winning streak, tacking on a 3-2 win over Monterey Peninsula last Saturday in a game postponed from February. This was two days after clinching the Coast Golden Gate Conference with a come-from-behind, 11-8 win over Mission. The Lady Bulldogs (37-2) were an absolutely juggernaut this season, as their winning streak was nearly three times as long as the baseball team’s. The CSM softball team embarked on a 32-game winning streak following a 5-3 loss to Sierra Feb. 18.

In a game Quigley-Borg planned to get all three of her front-line pitchers some work, McAdams, who came into the game with the lowest ERA in the state at 0.63 runs per game, led off with two innings of no-hit ball, which earned her 18th win of the year. She added four more strikeouts along the way, raising her season total to 118.

The College of San Mateo softball team has done nothing but pulverize Coast Conference and Northern California teams for the last several years. This season is no exception, as the Bulldogs, seeded No. 1 in Northern California and No. 3 in the state, have outscored opponents in the month of March 97-4 following Tuesday’s 19-1 shellacking of Chabot.

For the second consecutive year, the Bulldog Softball team will play Stanford in a fall match. The action begins at 5pm on Thursday, October 25 at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium on the Stanford campus.

College of San Mateo softball head coach Nicole Borg said Harlee Donovan’s ascent to one of the nation’s best softball players occurred at the end of last season when Donovan’s Southern Oregon University Raiders were beaten by Oklahoma City University in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) World Series.

Perennial contenders for the state softball championship, the College of San Mateo Bulldogs will have to wait another year for a shot at the program’s first title.

A year ago, the College of San Mateo softball team advanced to the community college state championship tournament by virtue of its pitching. This year, it was the bats that propelled the Lady Bulldogs back to Mt. San Antonio College.

The Bulldogs scored early and often, while starting pitcher Emily McAdams was nearly unhittable as CSM roared out of the playoff gate with a 10-1, five-inning, mercy-rule victory.
