Caroline Trevithick high jumped 5 feet, 3 3/4 inches, beating the current state leader, as College of San Mateo hosted the annual Bob Rush Track & Field Invitational Friday. She now ranks third in the state.

This year, CSM was proud to induct 19 women and men, who have distinguished themselves either as CSM athletes or later in their careers, into the Sports Hall of Fame at a banquet held on February 9.

Regardless of what happens in Super Bowl LII, there’s a celebration awaiting Julian Edelman of the New England Patriots. The longtime slot receiver will be inducted into the College of San Mateo Hall of Fame on Feb. 9. Edelman is scheduled to attend the event as part of an 18-member class that also includes Giants broadcaster Jon Miller.

College of San Mateo Jack Phillips claimed the community college state championship in the men’s high jump. And he put himself in the Bulldogs history books doing it.

Year in and year out, the Bulldogs’ discus, hammer and javelin throwers, in addition to their shot putters, are among the best not only in the Coast Conference, but all of Northern California — and even the state.

Several of the USA’s top all-around community college athletes will be competing at College of San Mateo on Tuesday and Wednesday (April 14-15) as the Bulldogs host the Northern California decathlon and heptathlon championships.

These are just two precursors to the stories of the 17 inductees composing the 2014-15 class to be enshrined in the CSM Athletics Hall of Fame. Since the CSM Hall’s inception in 2011-12, this year’s class marks the largest class ever inducted.

The three-day event held Friday through Sunday at CSM’s breathtaking mondo track marked the first time the event has ever been hosted in California.

Paralympian Jerome Singleton hails from Irmo, S.C., a small town northwest of Columbia. Singleton had never heard of San Mateo, which is hosting this weekend’s U.S. Paralympics Track and Field National Championships at the College of San Mateo.

There is a happy ending to what seemed like a difficult and painful story when we first reported it this past spring. You may remember the young man who chose to have his foot amputated because it caused him so much pain. We caught up with him Thursday at the College of San Mateo.
